Gigi is the first release from Michael Cunningham’s third studio album.
Penned by his long-term writing partner, Jim Anderson, who said “The song tells the tale of individuals ensnared by the clutches of addiction from which they cannot break free. They find themselves burdened with blame for things they should not be held accountable for. While the world around them passes judgment without understanding their struggles, these afflicted souls refrain from passing judgment on others. Instead, they endure in silence, kneeling under the weight of their suffering. Sadly, some of them succumb to their wounds, and despite their desperate plea for aid, people and medicine alike fail to provide the help they desperately need”.
The song was recorded at Einstein Studios in Antrim, with Frankie McClay serving as the engineer and co-producer. Despite his humble claim that he was only there to make tea, his brilliance shone through in the final production.
Contributing to the musical magic, John McCullough played the keyboards, while Clair Galway added her beautiful harmony vocals.
The cello was performed by Yoed Nir, a highly talented musician with an impressive portfolio. Yoed has collaborated with renowned artists such as Don McLean, Judy Collins, and Rufus Wainwright. Additionally, his expertise extends to working on various TV and movie scores, including Netflix’s “Bridgerton” and “Limitless,” among others.
