San Diego based Guitarist/Songwriter/Vocalist Mike Wilkins got his start playing in clubs at the age of sixteen. Mike specializes in legacy era Hard Rock and Heavy Metal. His playing style is a combination of influences including Glenn Tipton, George Lynch, and Phil Collen, as well as many others. Mike has released multiple singles in 2022 including two songs with former Judas Priest lead singer Tim “Ripper” Owens.

Mike had been inactive for many years due to an extreme problem with alcohol that eventually led to him becoming homeless for most of 2019. It was through this trial that he acquired a new perspective. This helped Mike gain the strength to quit drinking and devote 100% of his focus and energy on music. Songwriting and mastering the technical aspect of home recording became his main priorities. His current goal is to make himself available to other musicians in need of his skillset. He is also recording new material for an album that will include collaborations with various artists.

San Deigo California

How long have you been making music?
31 years

What genre would you consider your music to be?
Legacy Heavy Metal/Hard Rock

What inspired you to pursue a career in music?
I listened to Judas Priest – Painkiller when I was 13 and pretty much knew what I had to do with my life. Haha… So I forced my Mom to buy me a guitar.

What are your biggest musical influences?
Judas Priest, Dokken, Dio, Ratt, Queensryche

Are you signed to a label or are you an independent artist?
I am Unsigned

What have been the biggest challenges in your music career?
Well, I would say alcoholism. It is impossible to get anything done if you are wasted every day of your life. Lol. But seriously, I quit all shitty behavior two years ago so I have made quite a bit of progress to make up for lost time.

How many songs or albums have you released to date?
I currently have 5 songs released so far in 2022

Can you tell us a few things about your latest release?
Words of Destruction is a collaboration with a singer named SCARY D. He is the ex-singer for a San Francisco Bay Area Metal band called Imagika. I’ve actually known him since I was 14 and looked up to him as a teenager, so it’s trippy to finally be doing music with him all these years later.

Any plans for new music or upcoming projects we should know about?
Lots of Stuff. I have a new song, “SELF DESTRUCT” with Tim “Ripper” Owen (Judas Priest) coming out in the next couple of months. Two new songs with SCARY D and 5 Songs with me singing on them. Plus more on the way. I’m working like crazy. haha
