Where are you based?
I’m based in Los Angeles but I’m currently living in New York City for school. Love both coasts!
How long have you been making music?
I’ve loved singing and coming up with random melodies and lyrics for as long as I can remember. I released my first real song, “When I Grow Up,” when I was 10, so I guess it’s been almost 9 years now! Since then, I’ve grown so much as both a singer and songwriter so it’s amazing to be able to look back on my progress.
What genre would you consider your music to be?
Pop! My songs range from dance pop to indie pop to even alternative pop, but pop is very much a common denominator. I try not to think about genre too much when I write, but I think I’m naturally drawn to pop music in all of its forms.
What inspired you to pursue a career in music?
Music has always been a huge interest of mine. Once I started releasing my original songs, I fell in love with the feeling of connecting with people around the world through my music, so it felt natural to pursue a career in this passion. I’ve been super inspired by watching artists like Taylor Swift and Gracie Abrams gain popularity through vulnerable lyrics and honest songwriting—I always aim to do the same with my own listener base by telling stories via my songs.
What are your biggest musical influences?
I feel influenced by just about all the music I listen to. I’m a huge huge fan of Lorde – she is literally the blueprint! Some other favorites include Conan Gray, Gracie Abrams, BORNS, Sabrina Carpenter, Taylor Swift, Maisie Peters, Troye Sivan, Maude Latour, The Weeknd, and Clairo. Recently, I’ve also been listening to a lot of Childish Gambino, Jeff Buckley, The Smiths, Lana Del Rey, TV Girl, Tate McRae, and so many more.
Are you signed to a label or are you an independent artist?
I’m independent 🙂
What have been the biggest challenges in your music career?
I always struggle with how fickle social media algorithms can be: one day I’ll get thousands of likes on a singing video, and the next I’ll only get a few hundred. As an independent artist, it can be hard to be confident in myself, but I’ve learned to value genuine connection with listeners over arbitrary numbers.
How many songs or albums have you released to date?
“Never Reply” is the 32nd original song I’ve ever released, which is an insane number to think about! This includes my 12-track debut album, “Between the Lines,” which was released in September of 2022. If I include remixes and covers, then my discography is 54 tracks in total.
Can you tell us a few things about your latest release?
“Never Reply” is a pop song that combines pettiness with an anthemic hook to exemplify the feeling of wanting to be over a person, but not being there yet. I hope listeners can connect to the lyrics of wanting to back in time and “never reply” to someone who proved to be toxic, essentially ending the relationship before it soured. I made it with Winnetka Bowling League’s Sam Beresford and Smallpools’ Mike Kamerman. We initially went into the studio wanting to write a happy song but it slowly evolved into a more bitter, sarcastic song meant to be relatable and ironic!
Any plans for new music or upcoming projects we should know about?
Yes! “Never Reply” is the third single off my upcoming EP “Nostalgia Haunts Me.” Stay tuned on my socials for more information on the EP!!! I’m also playing a show in Brooklyn, New York on February 19th, opening for the wonderful Alexa Valentino. Anyone interested in coming can check out tickets HERE!
