Where are you based?
Oklahoma City, Oklahoma
How long have you been making music?
As far as taking seriously… 5 years now
What genre would you consider your music to be?
Primarily Hip-Hop & R&B, but the milestone for me is to make a song in each genre and earn plaques from them, I never wanna be boxed in creatively
What inspired you to pursue a career in music?
Music has always been that thing that was there for me, whether I was having a great day or a absolute horrible day. I would always rely on music and it has never failed to make me feel better, more inspired, and more confident. It was always that thing that felt super tangible to me, it never felt like it wasn’t achievable to me. Growing up, I was always so hooked to watching interviews, performances, or behind the scenes content on famous artist, it wasn’t hard for me to imagine myself in their shoes even at that young of an age. Music found me way before I found it, growing up I loved writing so that was just the universe’s way of sharpening my tools for the future that it had for me, which is making music.
What are your biggest musical influences?
There’s a plethora of them, but I can honestly start with Aaliyah & Nelly. Those were the very first 2 who I was like mindblown & trying to copy everything they do and sing a long to their songs to try and find patterns and cadences for myself. Those were the very earliest influences I had when I first started growing a love for music. Of course as I got older the Lil Wayne’s, Drake’s, and people like that came. I always love getting asked this question though, because I have so many and the way I came up with my sound was just taking individual things I loved from my influences and applying it to what I had built already, which is what made the MILLII sound you hear today.
Are you signed to a label or are you an independent artist?
INDEPENDENT ALL DAY!!! If the label isn’t trying to “PARTNER” I don’t want any parts of them
What have been the biggest challenges in your music career?
For me it was building up the confidence to put out those very first songs I ever put out, you face a lot of discouragement within that time, because you literally start from ground zero and people don’t tend to support something until it’s popular. So overcoming that hurdle of not overthinking and actually putting out your work for people to find it can be a big challenge, because a lot of artist want that instant blow up. It’s hard to stay on track building a foundation when no one is encouraging you to keep going but yourself.
How many songs or albums have you released to date?
Currently I have 100 songs out & I release a single every 2 weeks to add to the catalog. I have my first album just about done and have been for awhile, but I’m not releasing it until one of these singles pop and I get that momentum enough to drop it. Right now we just building that catalog gaining new supporters everyday
Can you tell us a few things about your latest release?
OWNERSHIP! I seen it being preached more and more over the last few years, yet a lot of artists are still giving up their intellectual property. It just makes no sense for someone else to own your emotions, words, and voice… so I made sure to plant my flag of ownership hard on this song
Any plans for new music or upcoming projects we should know about?
Yes or course, I release a new song every other Thursday @ 8PM EST for anybody who wants in on this journey, it’s only up from here, I promise!
