Indie Rock, Folk Pop
What inspired you to pursue a career in music?
Like many people, the pandemic was a chance to reflect and pivot to include music in my serious pursuits. Life’s short, you know, let’s have an adventure.
What are your biggest musical influences?
Incendiary Sweet’s recording project was inspired by Dave Grohl and the Foo Fighters’s first album. “After my injury, I switched my main instrument from drums to guitar and vocals. And like Dave, at the start, it was just me and my producer, but I hope it’ll grow into a band”. My music is a mix of Metric meets Jack Johnson with a touch of Dave Grohl.
Are you signed to a label or are you an independent artist?
Indie, baby
What have been the biggest challenges in your music career?
Before the pandemic, I’ve been reluctant to pursue serious live performance or recording due to my disability. I’ve has played shows in the past with members of the bands Hey Ocean and Parlour Steps, but a frontwoman singer/songwriter in wheelchair is ground-breaking. You rarely see wheelchair users centre stage and the lack of visibility made me afraid that I would be judged as a token or a novelty. Since the Covid, my mindset has changed. I’m now determined to showcase, record and perform regardless of stage fright or stereotypes.
How many songs or albums have you released to date?
Debut Single was Released Jun 4 2021
Can you tell us a few things about your latest release?
I wrote the song after discussion with a friend about getting trapped on the treadmill of “never enough money, never enough validation despite the hollow nature of the pursuit. So many of us don’t love the social media game, but we all live within the social constraints of our generation and this culture of scarcity. More personally, the song’s about managing the tensions of pursuing self-expansion while staying true to oneself.
Any plans for new music or upcoming projects we should know about?
