1997, born and raised in South Louisiana, rapper K9 grew up around a substantial amount of musical influence. Many members of his very large family possess the ability to sing, produce music, play musical instruments, and other talents. His passion for rap music may have begun at an early age due to his father’s strong love for the genre. Days were filled with songs playing in the home from artists like 2Pac, Rakim, Scarface, Eminem, and Lil Boosie (his father’s claimed top 5). Via his father’s influence and growing up, he developed and shared a passion for classic rap styles and “the more lyrical” artists. K9 exhibited an ability to write poetry at the age of 7, and would write poems that could express various thoughts and concepts. As a teen, he loved watching underground artists and cyphers. One day he would come across a rap contest hosted by Joell Ortiz. The challenge was “Six Fo”. Transcending beyond poetry, K9 formed a song along to the instrumental provided and discovered a new passion. With high approval from friends and family, K9 continued to write for years before officially taking name. Dubbed “The Boss” from family at an early age, he commonly uses “Bayou Boss” K9 as his full official name. One notable feature of K9 is his tribal tattoos. A mixture of Native American & Polynesian symbols cover his chest and left arm as an expression of his Choctaw heritage. In his music, you’ll often hear lush lyricism, vivid storytelling, dynamic flow, and brilliant rhymes. While his style and preferences might be a little dark to some, his musical ability and microphone distinctiveness captivates listeners through tasteful beats.

What inspired you to pursue a career in music?
Setback and tragedy inspired me to pursue my career in music. I had recently been passed over for a promotion at my job, a position the crew agreed I should have been chosen for. Setbacks like that have happened throughout my life. I work and improve myself to a level above the average, but it seems never enough for a breakthrough. Tragedy has plagued my family as early as I can remember. I’m just tired. I wanna put my folks in a house & give em the type of lifestyle you see on tv. Them people deserve a break.

Big L, 2Pac, Geto Boys, Spice 1, Lil Boosie

Are you signed to a label or are you an independent artist?
Independent artist

What have been the biggest challenges in your music career?
The biggest challenges for me have been management & funding. I’m still learning about the industry and studying things that can help me progress with my career. If I’m not working, then I am improving something else to help me. Most of my focus has been trying to get better on the marketing side of it. Now that I’m doing it myself, I can see firsthand why it’s hard to takeoff–money. Everybody want a piece of yo pocket to push you.

How many songs or albums have you released to date?
I have released 2 singles to date.

Can you tell us a few things about your latest release?
My latest release is a Geto Boys throwback. “Mind Playin’ Tricks On Me” is my own spin on the classic. I tell 4 original stories that are based on true stories. The way I tell em though, people close to me have no idea what I’m even talking about. I plan to explain them later in more detail eventually.

Any plans for new music or upcoming projects we should know about?
I have many plans in my head. Currently my next single “Kristiana” is available to pre-save right now. Some concrete plans I’m preparing to move on is a music video, another single, and an album for the year 2021. I’m hoping to get featured with some other artists too and spread myself out there some more.
